It’s important to plan for an open house because it does come with risks. After all, it involves opening your home to complete strangers.
Few people think to remove medications and valuables from areas like a washroom where visitors can close and the door and not be viewed. It’s up to you to protect your valuables with the help of your broker or salesperson’s advice. Confirm that your sales representative will be there. Discuss whether someone will limit the number of people allowed in the home during each showing, and whether potential buyers will be escorted during their visit to your home.
Valuable security tips:
· Remove or safely store small items (jewelry, MP3 players, cell phones, remotes, credit cards)
· Keep your bills, credit card receipts, and bank statements out of view
· Remove medications from all rooms in the home including medicine cabinets
· Take inventory – and possibly photos – ahead of time so you know quickly if anything is missing
