An alarm system is your first step in securing your home or business. There are other items to consider when personalizing your alarm for your unique needs. New technology allows easier access to information but you may want notification by exception rather than every time the alarm is armed or disarmed:
- Every user should have a unique, private user code to arm and disarm your system. The event listing on your alarm panel provides information on who and when accessed your system.
- How often do you want to be notified that your system has been disarmed? Each time the system is disarmed, only when it’s outside of “normal” times, or when it isn't disarmed within “normal” times.
- How do you ensure your alarm is armed? Do you want to check with real-time access or be informed when it hasn't been armed within “normal” times, or do you want your system to automatically arm at a certain time?
- In addition to monitoring intrusion detection, consider adding environmental protection monitoring to include water sensors, heat and smoke detectors, temperature sensors, and carbon monoxide detectors.
