We recently returned from a trip to China organized by MBOT (Mississauga Board of Trade).
China is the highest populated country in the world with over 1.3 billion people. Three of their cities have over 20 million residents.
Housing is expensive and smaller in comparison to Canadian standards.
Housing in older areas can consist of a couple of rooms (living room and bedroom) without a hallway, attached to a courtyard. The courtyard, washrooms, and kitchen are shared by eight families. Most people live in apartment or condominiums.
In Shanghai, there are 1,800 condominiums under construction at any time.
Despite the large population, there are many green parks and areas for residents to visit. Ball room dancing, tai chi, badminton, checkers, and card games are a common site in public areas.
MBOT is offering a similar trip in the fall of 2012 which we highly recommend.
